Culture and Diversity
Knoxville claims a wide range of forward thinking national and international talents. The scholarly influence on the Knoxville metropolitan area bred literary greats including James Agee, Cormac McCarthy, and Nikki Giovanni. Knoxville is home to one of the largest sculptures dedicated to an African American in the country. Basic Job Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to provide college level instruction to students pursuing an Associate Degree in the culinary arts. The successful candidate for this position must be qualified to teach all courses offered in the institution’s culinary arts certificate, and non-degree community courses that are or may be offered.
Essential Job Functions:
65% Teach college courses in the culinary arts.
5% Provide academic advising to culinary arts students.
5% Order and track culinary program food, supplies and other items as required and maintain appropriate inventory(ies).
5% Develop curriculum in the culinary arts and produce appropriate culinary arts accreditation reports.
5% Serve the college and community as appropriate in a faculty member role.
5% Engage in on-going professional development activities especially those related to accreditation of the culinary arts program.
5% Work with approved local organizations and venues to assure that students engage in and lead real-world culinary events as part of their college coursework.

Key Result Areas:
· Continued accreditation of the culinary arts program.
· Number of graduates earning Associate of Applied Science or certificates in culinary arts.
· A level of teaching, service, and professional development appropriate to the faculty rank.
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline (may include culinary arts, business, nutrition, food science, or others approved by the dean) or associate degree in culinary arts with demonstrated competencies in the culinary arts discipline (If hired with an associate degree, completing an appropriate bachelor’s degree before December 31, 2025 will be a condition of employment). Must be certified or certifiable as a cooking professional at the ACF Certified Sous Chef (CSC) level or higher: www.acfchefs.org/ACF/Certify/Levels/CSC/ACF/Certify/Levels/CSC/
· A minimum of four years of work experience in the culinary arts industry is required. Previous experience teaching at a community college or in an ACF accredited culinary arts program is highly preferred.
Special Skills/Application of Knowledge:
Familiarity with ACF accreditation is expected. Previous experience working in an ACF accredited culinary arts program is highly preferred.
Scope of Responsibility: This position requires significant analytical, technical and creative thinking. Although guided by substantial and readily available policies, procedures, standards and precedents, this position requires the ability to make decisions based on available information and act appropriately.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, manipulate kitchen instruments with the hands, operate a variety of kitchen equipment, and generally be mobile 100% of the time while on and between campuses. The position requires the ability to lift bulk food products and equipment or supplies (which could include items weighing up to 50 pounds).
Hazards: This position requires the use and mixing of chemicals, especially cleaning agents where gloves and other protective clothing must be worn. The position places the incumbent at risk of burns, scalds, cuts, and exposure to other commercial kitchen risks.
